Lucky Mushroom is the ambassador of Hashemo's Haus but unlike many other ambassadors or representatives, Lucky chooses not to communicate with the general public. I'm not sure here if "chooses" is the right word. Lucky has selective mutism. Mechthild Krohn Grossmann speaks briefly about what "Selective Mutism" is but it's in German so get your translator or a German friend to help you with the video clip if you don't speak German:
It came out in therapy that Lucky had been traumatized by the many conversations held with adults. Many "grownups" twisted simple words and concepts beyond recognition. For example, red and blue suddenly became political and religious ideologies. Many adults had even spoken of the country as being divided into these two colors. Well to Lucky red and blue are simply colors of the spectrum. Lucky really couldn't understand why a side needed to be chosen. The rainbow was no longer about ROY G BIV and it wasn't in the sky! The rainbow had morphed into conversations about sexual orientation, behavior, and identity, confusing Lucky even more.
However, when speaking to children, Lucky realized that English was alive and well. The colors of the spectrum had not changed. The rainbow in the sky continues to fascinate. But like us at Hashemo's Haus, he was concerned that children across the globe would have trouble navigating the English of adults. The native speakers were no longer a reliable source when it came to learning to communicate in English. They could no longer communicate with each other and fear of offending each other was beginning to shut down communication altogether!
So when we approached Lucky, the world's first autonomous puppet, about being our ambassador he jumped at the chance. Lucky's only condition was that it would never have to speak to an adult unless that adult was an artist and the conversation was about the art.
So when you see Lucky or "the man with the puppet on his hand", please don't address the puppet unless you are an artist and would like to talk about art. Lucky appeals to adults but exits for the kids of the world. Lucky identifies strongly with our mission to unite the kids of the world through language, art, and sports because Lucky likes to have fun.
You can have fun too! Join us and our mission. Like Lucky always says:
"RED IS RED AND BLUE IS BLUE AND EVERYDAY THERE'S SOMETHING NEW"
